Verify the movement. Ask specifically what movement is used. A legitimate builder will give you a specific answer — NH35, VK64, NH34 — not a vague "automatic movement" or "Japanese quartz."
Check the crystal specification. Sapphire crystal should be stated explicitly in the product specifications. "High quality crystal" or "scratch-resistant crystal" without the word sapphire almost certainly means mineral glass.
Read the warranty terms carefully. How long? What does it cover? Who specifically honours it? A real warranty from a real operation is your primary protection.
